About this photo

If you are renewing or applying for an Australian Passport, the Australian Passport Office (DFAT) asks for a printed photo 35 mm wide and 45 mm high, with your head filling roughly 32 to 36 mm from chin to crown. The background may be white or light grey, evenly lit and free of shadows. Since 2018 glasses are not permitted at all unless you hold a medical exemption, so take yours off before the shot. Keep a neutral face, look straight into the lens and avoid filters or retouching, because altered features are refused. The photo has to be less than six months old when you lodge the form.
