The photo is the part we handle. Here is where it fits.
Passport Online accepts a photo taken on a smartphone, tablet or digital camera. You do not need a photo booth or a studio appointment.
We size it to the official specification, set the background, and check it against the guidelines before you pay.
You get a digital file ready to upload with your application. No printed photos to post.
As a first-time applicant you still post your Identity Verification Form and original documents — see below.
The Passport Service does not accept a photo you took at arm's length. Ask someone else to take it, or prop your phone up against something at eye level.
Stand back and capture yourself from the waist upwards rather than zooming in. Zoom distorts the face, and we cannot undo that afterwards.
PhotoPass ID only provides the photo. As a first-time adult applicant you will also need to post original documents to the Passport Service:
Document requirements are set by the Department of Foreign Affairs and can change. Always check the current list on the official Passport Online service before you post anything — this page is a guide, not the authority.
